Your Spring Strategies for Success

Hey there!

I don’t know where you are, but today in Virginia it was in the 60’s! I could quite literally, smell Spring!

Which got me thinking… What else do I need to prepare for to spring (get it, haha) into action! All jokes aside, in these newsletters, my goal is to give you quick action tips & resources for you to spring (last time, I promise) into action. Not to mention make you giggle a little… But if there is a resource I can find, you got it!

So here are a few tips I came up with that you may need to do too!

1. Plan Your Garden

Decide what veggies and fruits you like to eat and plan to plant those. If you've started some seeds inside, make sure they're growing strong. A group member recommended companion planting. I didn’t know this was a thing, what a newb I am. Check out this video on companion planting in the resource below!

2. Clean Up

Time to tidy up your barn, coop, or any place where your animals live. Make everything clean and fix anything that's broken.

Resource: Involve your kids, that’s your resource 😉

3. Take Care of Your Animals

Make sure all your animals have clean water and the right food for spring. If you're getting new baby animals, get ready for them to arrive. It’s that time y’all, CHICK TIME! 🐣

4. Check Your Tools

Look over your gardening tools and machines. Fix anything that needs fixing so everything's ready to use.

5. Watch Out for Pests

Keep an eye out for bugs and weeds that might bother your plants. Doing a little bit now can save you a lot of trouble later.

6. Think About Water

If it rains a lot where you live, think about collecting rainwater. If it's usually dry, make sure your watering system is working right.

7. Talk to Other Homesteaders, lean on our community!

Spring is a great time to share ideas with friends who also have gardens or animals. Maybe swap some seeds or tips. We have a chat for seed swapping, I love jumping in there from time to time to see what others are swapping.

Listen, Spring is all about new beginnings. Let's make this season awesome with our gardens and animals. Have fun getting ready for spring on your homestead!
